Tosohatchee Wildlife Management Area Dispersed Camping

Remote backcountry camping along old logging roads in 28,000 acres of pristine wetlands and pine flatwoods.

Tosohatchee WMA offers some of Central Florida’s most isolated camping experiences, with designated primitive sites scattered along miles of sandy two-track roads. The area encompasses vast wetlands, pine flatwoods, and hardwood hammocks along the St. Johns River floodplain. Sites are first-come first-served with no facilities—pack everything in and out. Fire rings present at some locations but bring your own water.

Access requires high-clearance vehicle during wet season as roads can flood. Gates open daily at sunrise, close at sunset. Best access from Christmas or Wedgefield, about 30 miles east of Orlando. Popular with hunters during season (check WMA regulations), but nearly empty otherwise.
