This high mountain pass sits on the Continental Divide between Steamboat Springs and Winter Park, named for the distinctive twin rock spires that resemble rabbit ears. The actual pass summit offers expansive views of the Yampa Valley to the west and Fraser Valley to the east, with multiple pullouts for photos and a break from the climb. Snow gates can close the road during winter storms, typically November through April.
The pass is easily accessible via paved US Highway 40, making it a convenient waypoint for overlanders heading between northwest and central Colorado. Several dispersed camping opportunities exist on Forest Service roads just off the highway on both sides of the pass.
