Hermit Creek Trailhead sits at the end of Forest Road 578, about 25 miles northeast of Durango in steep aspen and pine country. Small parking area with vault toilet but no water — bring your own. Trail accesses alpine basins and connects to the Colorado Trail system.
Getting here requires high-clearance and potentially 4WD depending on conditions. Forest Road 578 is rough, rocky, and narrow in spots. Popular with backpackers heading into the Weminuche Wilderness. Best accessed June through October when snow clears.
