Wour Oasis — Ennedi Est Northern Terminus Water Source and Desert Crossroads
Wour sits at the far northern end of the Ennedi Est piste, roughly where the sandstone massif gives way to open erg and reg. It’s a small permanent settlement with a guelta-fed water source, a handful of mud-brick structures, and the kind of quiet that tells you you’re genuinely at the edge. For overlanders running the full Fada-to-Wour route, this is the terminus — and the last reliable water point before pushing north toward the Tibesti or east toward Sudan. Fuel is not guaranteed; treat Fada as your last confirmed diesel stop and carry accordingly.
The track from Fada is deep sand, corrugated reg, and sandstone slab in rotation — plan 1.5 to 2 days for the full run in good conditions. No cell signal. No medevac infrastructure. The Chadian military checkpoint at or near Wour is standard — have your laissez-passer and paperwork in order. Dry season only: roughly November through March. Outside that window the piste becomes impassable and the area dangerous.
End of the piste. Last water. Real Sahara starts here.
