Campement Dogon de Sangha — Village Terrace Guesthouse Camp
Sangha sits at the top of the Bandiagara Falaise — the cliff village where the Piste du Bandiagara effectively ends for most overlanders. The Campement de Sangha is the longest-running guesthouse-camp in the Dogon villages, offering basic walled-courtyard vehicle parking, thatched shade shelters, squat-toilet facilities, and rooftop sleeping mats or tent space on flat packed-earth terraces. Bucket showers are available. Meals are prepared by the family running the compound — groundnut stew, millet bread, sweet tea. It gets busy during the dry-season tourist window (November–February) when Dogon trek traffic peaks. Expect a handful of motos and the occasional NGO Land Cruiser sharing the yard.
Access to Sangha from Bankass runs via a laterite and rough stone piste — negotiable by high-clearance 4WD, not for standard 2WD in any season. The last few kilometres up the escarpment edge are rocky and loose. No fuel in Sangha; carry enough to return to Bankass or push to Mopti. Verify current security situation with local guides before departure — the Mopti Region carries elevated risk advisories. Cell signal is occasionally available on Malitel or Orange Mali networks from high ground.
