Bulloo Overflow Channel — Thargomindah Floodplain Dispersed Camp
This is raw Channel Country. The Bulloo Overflow spills across braided flood channels and clay pans west of Thargomindah, and when dry, those flats make for solid, flat camping on cracked earth with long sight lines in every direction. No shade, no facilities, no signage — just you, the saltbush, and the silence. Kangaroos work the channel edges at dusk. Check flood conditions before committing; this country closes hard and fast after rain and the clay surface turns to grease.
Access is via unsealed station tracks off the Thargomindah-Hungerford road corridor. High-clearance is a minimum — a 4WD is strongly advised after any rainfall. No water on-site; carry your own. Nearest supplies at Thargomindah township, about 30–50 km depending on which channel flat you’re on. No cell signal. Station lease country — confirm access status locally before heading out.
Channel Country flats, red dirt, zero frills.
