In Salah — Tanezrouft Track Northern Fuel and Gendarmerie Checkpoint
In Salah sits at the crossroads of the Trans-Sahara Highway and the Tanezrouft Track, making it the critical final resupply before the route plunges south into one of the most desolate desert corridors on earth. There are functioning petrol stations here — diesel and essence both available, though quantities vary seasonally — plus a market where you can top up water, dates, tinned food, and basic provisions. The gendarmerie post is mandatory: you must register your paperwork, convoy authorization, and travel plan before proceeding south. This is not optional. They will turn you around if your permits aren’t in order.
In Salah also holds the last mechanic of any consequence before Reggane to the south or Tamanrasset to the east. The town is genuine — dusty, functional, and staffed by people who have seen overlanders in trouble and know what they need. Arrive with full tanks, full water, and every document you need stamped. The Sahara south of here does not forgive poor planning.
Last fuel and permits before the void.
