Marsabit National Park Campsite — KWS Public Campground

Established Campground

Marsabit National Park’s public campsite sits inside the forested caldera zone, managed by Kenya Wildlife Service. It’s a basic but real setup — cleared ground, a long-drop toilet block, and a fire area. The forest here is thick and cool, a jarring contrast to the scorched lava desert you just crawled across on the Marsabit road. Wildlife pressure is genuine: elephant, lion, and leopard are active inside the park perimeter. Keep food locked and don’t wander at night. Capacity is minimal — this is not a busy site, but during peak overland season (July–September) you may share it with two or three other rigs.

Access is through the KWS main gate on the northern edge of Marsabit town. Pay park fees at the gate. The tracks inside are rough dirt and can get slick after rain. Cell signal is weak to none inside the forest. Fuel up in Marsabit town before entering — there’s no resupply inside the park.
