Sary-Mogul — Pamir Highway Southern Kyrgyzstan Fuel and Village Hub

Sary-Mogul is a small Kyrgyz village on the M41 southwest of Sary-Tash, and for overlanders pushing toward the Kyzyl-Art Pass and into Tajikistan, it’s the last realistic place to top off fuel from a roadside seller and grab basic provisions. The backdrop is absurd — Pik Lenin (7,134m) dominates the northern skyline, and the valley opens up into classic high-plateau steppe. Don’t expect a petrol station with a forecourt; fuel here means jerricans and a hand pump, but it’s there and it’s real. Basic guesthouses operate in the village for under $10 a night.

The road from Sary-Tash is paved but roughing up fast in sections. Fuel availability can be inconsistent off-season — October through April, don’t count on it. Altitude here sits around 3,200m, so give your engine a minute to tell you what it thinks. Permit-wise, you’re still inside Kyrgyzstan here, but the Tajik GBAO permit needs to be sorted before you roll south.
