Kidman Camp – Mungo National Park

Kidman Camp is the primary campground inside Mungo National Park in far southwest New South Wales, sitting near the famous Walls of China — a 33km arc of sculpted lunette dunes that look like they belong on another planet. Facilities are basic: pit toilets, picnic tables, and a camp kitchen shelter. No showers, no hookups, no noise from the outside world. Capacity is limited and it’s popular with travellers making the run between Mildura and Balranald. The park is within Willandra Lakes Region World Heritage Area, so treat the landscape with respect — don’t walk on exposed fossil ground.

The access road from Mildura or Ivanhoe is unsealed and can turn slippery after rain — high-clearance 2WD handles it dry, but wet conditions can close the road fast. Water is available at the park visitor centre. Book via NSW National Parks. No fires in the park — gas only. Ranger-led tours of the lunette are worth every cent if you time your visit right.
